Operating your CTM Scooter/Powerchair

Additional Operating Information

Hill climing:
You may need to select a higher speed. Turn to a lower speed before riding downhill.
Down Slopes:
To proceed down steep slopes slowly, set the Speed Dial in the proximity of the "turtle". This enabled maximum safety and driver control as the closer the Speed Dial is set towards the "turtle", the slower the speed. This scooter will not accelerate downhill because the controller will take effect.
Curb Climbing:
Approach slowly at right angles to the curb. A slight angle is permissiable with a 4-wheel scooters, but a direct approach is necessary with a 3-wheel model. Do not attempt to climb a curb which is greater than 4" in hight.
Free Wheeling:
If the scooter breaks down and must be moved immediately, climb off and push the Free Wheeling level to "N" then push the scooter slowly to a safe location. Return the lever back to it's "D" position.

Operating Your Power Chair

Before operating your power chair, check the following...
Free Wheeling Device is at "D" position.
Speed Dial is set at the low speed.
Sit on chair and securely fasten the safety belt.
Turn on the Power Switch - the Battery Level Indicator light should be fully-illuminated in all areas.
With your right hand resting comfortably on the armrest, the joystick should be within easy reach. Push the joystick in the direction in which you wish to go. You may turn the chair in the 360 degree direction. When you stop pushing the joystick the chair will stop.
Practise riding where their are no obstacles. Start at the slowest speed and ride forwards and backwards plus make some turns. As you become more comfortable, you can increase the speed by turning the Speed Dial.
If the Power Reserve Indicator is only partially illuminated, you should plan to recharge the batteries very soon.
When you have finished riding, turn off the key before climbing off.
If you have finished riding for the day, immediately recharge the batteries.

Recharging Your Batteries

Batteries must be charged before using the vehicle for the first time, and should be recharged after each day's use. To do this you will need the chair and the battery charger.

NOTE - As individual countries may supply different chargers, the charging procedure may be different from that described below. If you require more details, please contact your authorized dealer.

NOTE: Ensure the chair key is in the OFF position.
Ensure that the voltage switch on the battery charger is correctly set to 115V or 230V
Ensure the main switch on the battery charger is OFF
Insert battery charger output terminal into the chair charging port.
Plug the other end of the battery charger cable into a standard electrical outlet.
NOTE: To allow heat to dissipate, do not place battery charger on batteries or close to other objects.
Turn the main switch on the battery charger to ON.
The battery charger lights with normally be red and yellow at this point. Check whether you can hear the fan running. If the lights are not on or the fan is not running, turn the main switch OFF. Disconnect the battery charger and check the fuse for burnout. Replace fuse if necessary, reconnect and try again. If this still does not work, please contact your authorized agent.
Allow to charge until the right battery charger light turns green.
Then turn OFF the battery charger and unplug it from the chair.
NOTE: The time needed to recharge will vary depending upon the level of depletion of the batteries. Charging for longer than necessary will not harm the batteries - they cannot be overcharged.

General Care

We recommend that you comply with the following instructions which are intended to ensure that your scooter/chair achieves its optimum operating life.
Cleaning:
If your scooter/chair is dirty, use a damp or lightly soapy cloth to wipe it down. In order to protect the electrical parts, do not use running water to wash or rinse. Buff and shine with an automotive liquid polish
Seat Care:
The seat material used by C.T.M. is of high quality and will remain in good condition for many years if treated correctly. Regular cleaning and care are necessary since dust and dirt (from the roads) can cause severe abrasion which may lead to the surface becoming permanently brittle. It is recommended that you remove surface dust with a cloth at regular intervals.
Allow Wheels:
These should be treated with a suitable cleaner (particularly during the winter months). However do not use aggressive, acidic, strong alkaline or abrasive cleaning agents or steam jets at more than 60 degrees Fahrenheit (comply with the manufacturer's instructions for use).
Seat Belts (Power Chairs Only):
These should be cleaned with mild soap suds without removing them from the chair. Do not dry clean or use chemical products as they may weaken the fabric.
Storage:
Between use, your scooter/chair is best stored in a dry location
